Case Linking is the process of connecting two or more Cases in Collaborate that represent the same individual. This allows Users to track when an individual has multiple Cases in Collaborate, and also has important reporting implications when it comes to reporting on unique individuals.


Linking to Another Case

Normally, Users should indicate during Conflict Check whether or not an individual has had previous involvement with their organization. However, Users may not always have enough information to make this determination during Conflict Check, or the Users may have just missed that the individual has a previous case with their organization. 


To link cases for the same individual after the cases have been created, use the following steps:

  1. Navigate to either case for the individual with multiple unlinked cases
    1. In a scenario where one of the cases is already linked to another case, you must start from the case that is not linked to any other case
  2. In the Case Profile Sidebar:
    1. Click Case Actions to expand the Case Actions list
    2. Click Link to Another Case
  3.  In the Create Link to Another Case form:
    1. Enter the full name or case id # for the target case that you would like to link to the current case in the Case Search field.
      1. Case id # is the preferred search method since there is always a one to one relationship.
    2. Select the target case from the list
    3. Click Create Case Link


Unlinking a Case

To unlink two cases that should not be linked, use the following steps:

  1. Navigate to either of the Linked Cases
  2. In the Case Profile Sidebar:
    1. Click Case Actions to expand the Case Actions list
    2. Click Unlink this Case
  3.  In the Create Unlink this Case form:
    1. Click Unlink Case
      1. Note: Performing this action will remove the case links displayed in the Other Cases for This Person listview.


Clarification: Linked Cases v. Associated Cases 

Case Linking connects Cases for the same individual. Associated Case Relationships are used to connect Cases for different individuals that have a relationship with each other.
